The stamping and dies technical group is a virtual community of SME members who all share an affinity to the Stamping and Die industry. Under the umbrella of the Forming and Fabricating Technical Community, it seeks to allow SME members an opportunity to Meet, Know, Grow with other like minded professionals. It is the goal of this group to meet monthly to further technical knowledge in stamping and dies.
We meet every second Wednesday of the month for a conference call. All SME members who are in some way related to the use of Dies for Stamping Sheet Metal should join our call. We offer the chance for any of our members to be active in directing the group, and any SME member can use the Webinar platform we offer to promote their technology or company.
Eric will most likely not be on the call live (taking the kids to camp) but will provide some input via proxy for the meeting, as could any active member. We have to get good at proxy and asynchronous activity otherwise the virtual group will be stuck as a phone only group.

Minutes from meeting (informal):
ReplyDeleteAttendees: Brian P, Dean P, Tina B.
Absent: Eric K (sent proxy via agenda)
Webinar series: Dean will offer a Press room Safety webinar in December (12/14/2011 1:00 PM Eastern time). As usual the tech group meeting will follow immediately after.
Any attempt to administer a webinar hosted by any of the leaders of SME:FFC seems unlikely prior to the Fabtech date. However, that leaves any and all webinar slots upto the day of FABTECH open. and up fr grabs.
Eric proposed that the TECH Group use Google Groups as a method to Share their work product with the SME membership at large. Items like the calendar, Discussions, project work could be contained and distributed there. The need for this was not immediately clear to the other advisors, until they reviewed how the SME Site is primarily as an advertisement to land members, and not the repository of membership benefit. Eric made a simple mock-up of a page that would allow for project sharing and other actions on the Google site http://sites.google.com/site/stampingdiessme/
The advisers thought it was a good idea, and thought we should roll it out. Ideally, use of the site should be MEMBERS only, how to administer that will have to come later.
Meeting was closed and minutes sent to eric for review. Eric posted them here today.
